Okorn Žiga

Born in 1967 in Ljubljana. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Ljubljana with an exhibition in the Tivoli Park’s old Boat House in 1991 with Prof. Gustav Gnamuš and Prof. Tomaž Brejc. Freelance artist since 1994. Okorn has co-authored the renovation of the former military prisons, which now house the Celica Youth Hostel, and has designed one of the cells. As member of the Sestava group, Okorn is engaged in a series of professional-civilian initiatives that involve fine art and culture in the domain of education (against excluding art education from elementary schools), heritage protection (initiative to preserve the Robba Fountain) and artistic vocation (has co-organised the auction to help save the Association of Slovene Fine Artists). He has also devoted himself to design (permanent exhibition at the Bled Castle, NMS, 2008), illustration, photography, interior design... Since 1991 Okorn has regularly exhibited in Slovenia and abroad. In 2002 he received the Best Watercolour Award at the Piran Ex-tempore and in 2008 at the Ex-tempore Grožnjan. In 2004, together with the Sestava group, he received the City of Ljubljana Distinction for the renovation of the former military prisons, which now house the Celica Youth Hostel. In 2009 he won the Golden Nest Award (zlato gnezdo); in 2006, 2008 and in 2011 he was a co-winner of the Golden Pencil Award (zlati svinčnik), bestowed by the Slovenian Chamber of Architecture.
