Vladimir Makuc is one of the most important contemporary Slovenian artists. He was born in 1925 in Solkan. At the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana he studied painting. There he graduated in 1954 and enrolled in postgraduate studies in the restoration and conservation of Professor Miroslav Šubic (ended in 1956). Early artistic creation is focused primarily on research in the graphic. Up until 1960, when he went to Paris Studio Johnny Friedlender, he created woodcuts then etching and aquatint. In 1962 he had his first solo exhibition in Mala Gallery in Ljubljana. For artistic creation has won numerous awards and recognition both at home and abroad. He died in 2016.
