We could say that Albin Lugarič is »the most Ptuj's painter among the painters from Ptuj«. He was born on the 9th August 1927 in Ptuj. He left his hometown only during the time of studying between the years 1942 and 1944, when he was attending Art-Craft school in Graz, and between 1946 and 1951, when he was studying at the Academy of fine arts in Ljubljana, where he graduated at Prof. Gojmir Anton Kos in 1950. After the graduation, he finished a specialization in painting at the same professor. In 1956 he visited Paris. During several months, which he spent there, he was studying painting. He is one of the most popular people from Ptuj also because of his frank temperament. He was teaching for many years at Ptuj's college (1956-1987), and former students remember him as a temperamental teacher, who was very skilled at approaching to great European artists as well as beauties of Ptuj. In 2005 he became a honorable citizen of Ptuj. Albin Lugarič has prepared exhibitions rather often; therefore his opus is relatively well-known to the Slovenian audience. There are also many studies about his work. Ptuj's museum prepared two comprehensive exhibitions of his work in 1987 and in 1997 (on his 60th and 70th birthday); a catalogue was issued each time. In 2007, for the artist's 80th birthday, a selection of his opus was represented in Mihelič's gallery in Ptuj. In 1989 The Art Gallery Maribor published the painter's monograph. Many other publications also exist about Lugarič’s creativity, and his work constantly invites us to new analysis and comparisons. He died in 2014 in Ptuj.
