Jemec Andrej
Andrej Jemec was born on 29 November, 1934 in Ljubljana. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana from 1953 to 1958 under professors Marij Pregelj and Gabrijel Stupica, and graphic art under Riko Debenjak and Božidar Jakac. He graduated in1958 under the mentorship of Prof. Gabrijel Stupica. After receiving a scholarship of the Prešeren Fund in 1963/64 he underwent advancedtraining in the studio of J. Friedlaender in Paris and then in London.In 1973 he was habilitated to assistant professor for drawing and painting, and began to teach at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design inLjubljana, where he was full professor on the undergraduate andpost-graduate levels from 1984 until his retirement in 1999. In the period from 1977 to 1981 he served two terms as Dean of the Academy.He is associate member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Artssince 1995, and its full member since 2001. As Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in 1978 he proposed the establishment of a Department of Design, which began to function in 1984 and was headedby Jemec until 1988.
