Godec France
France Godec was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on November 28, 1910. He studied at the Painting and Sculpture School, where France Kralj, Alojzij Repič, Gojmir Anton Kos, and Saša Šantelj were among his teachers. He later went to Zagreb and graduated from the Academy of Arts. He then worked in the studios of the sculptors France Gorše and Ivan Zajc and the painters Fran Tratnik and Matej Sternen for six years. His views were also shaped by his personal contacts with Jakopič, Jama, Vesel, and Slapernik. From 1937 onwards he presented his work in several exhibitions around Yugoslavia and in independent exhibitions in India, Burma, Denmark, West Germany, and the USA. His works are in private and public collections in Slovenia and abroad. Godec was among the first artists to donate works to the Gorjup Gallery in Kostanjevica na Krki at the time of its establishment. He died in Ljubljana in 1996.
