Igor Dolenc was born in 1941 in Poljane over Škofja Loka. He finished the Ljubljana school of design as a litography draftsman. he received a great influence on his painting from academic painter Ive Šubic, who at that time included Dolenc in lively gatherings of fine art in Poljanska walley. Šubic was his mentor and a friend. From 1960 until 1975 he was upgrading his painting skills travelling between france, UK, Germany and Italy. He openned his first exhibition in Ljubljana in 1960.
