Černe Peter
"Born 1931 in Ljubljana. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he also congratulated the postgraduate course in sculpture. Lives and works in Ljubljana. His figural art, based from the very beginnings in the late 50's, on the classic, and to a considerable extent also on the legacy of expressionism, belongs to the domain of symbols and shapes, representing a bold and remarkable synthesis of the colorful baroque ornamentation and that kind of sculptural figural art that is simultaneously the negation and the apotheosis of the sculptural material. Eary Černe's art was wood statues representing strange, solitary old men. Later, he discovered the unusual yet very effective combination of wooden cores and bronze plating. Still later, his sculptural works, inclining to full plasticity, tend towards abstraction. The artist did not however opt for geometric formulations or a procedure for creating abstract art. Rather, he chose to shape ""figures"", which are Černe's interpretations of the essence of the vegetative, or more precisely, plant components of animals and human beings."
