Petar Beus was born in Mostar on July 4, 1939. He studied painting with professors Voja Dimitrijević and Mića Todorović at the School of Applied Arts in Sarajevo and graduated in 1962.He continued his studies with professors Marij Pregl, France Mihelič, and Gabrijel Stupica at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. Though he is a native from the Herzegovinian cultural area, he completed his education in Slovenia. His last professor at the Academy of Fine Arts was Gabrijel Stupica, and he graduated from the professor’s class in 1966.Beus’s principal motifs are female nudes, portraits, and still lives, which have been the central theme of his work for decades; they reveal a painter, who has not been attracted by abstract art. His excellent drawing technique particularly shows in pastel, but in oil paintings the colours dominate. Beus creates paintings, drawings, and prints. He lives and works in Ljubljana.
